Ferris State Men's Tennis Defeats GVSU To Claim Hold On First Place In the GLIAC

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad left little doubt in a first-place Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) showdown against West Michigan archival Grand Valley State on Wednesday (April 14) as the Bulldogs beat the Lakers 6-1 in conference action.

Ferris State stayed perfect on the year at 11-0 and 6-0 in the GLIAC by beating the Lakers, who suffered their first conference loss of the second and dropped into second place with a 5-1 league record.

The Bulldogs took the doubles point, winning at one and three doubles, to start the match. The performance included a tight 7-5 win by Yannic Alexander Mader and Ayush Deswal at the third flight in the lineup.

From there, Ferris State kept the momentum rolling, claiming five of the six singles flights. Mathis Guerre won in three sets at one singles with Mader taking a straight-set win at the second position. Meanwhile, Jan Koupil earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at three singles with Josh McDermott and Deswal winning in three at the fifth and sixth flights, respectively.

The win was the 11th in a row this year for the Bulldogs heading into the final two matches of the regular season.

Ferris State will travel to Michigan's Upper Peninsula this weekend, facing Lake Superior State on Friday (April 16) and Michigan Tech on Saturday (April 17) before the GLIAC Tournament set for April 23-25 in Midland.
