Ferris State's Yannic Mader Tabbed GLIAC Men's Tennis Athlete Of The Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - Sophomore Yannic Alexander Mader (Berlin, Germany) of the Ferris State University men's tennis squad has been tabbed as this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week.

Mader had a big week for the Bulldogs, helping FSU clinch the GLIAC regular-season championship while improving to a perfect 13-0 overall and 8-0 in conference play.

Mader posted a 6-0 overall combined singles and doubles record on the week as FSU finished regular-season action unbeaten in the conference with three wins. He led FSU to a road win at Grand Valley State last Wednesday followed by back-to-back victories in Michigan's Upper Peninsula over Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech on the weekend.

Mader posted a pair of wins at two singles and three doubles before moving up and notching wins at one singles and two doubles in the regular-season finale win at MTU on Saturday. His play also helped FSU secure the top seed for the conference tournament.

The Bulldogs' GLIAC Regular-Season Championship this year was the program's 19th in school history and the fifth in the last six opportunities.

The Bulldog men have earned a first-round bye as the number one seed and will face either fourth-seeded Purdue Northwest or fifth-seeded Ashland on Saturday (April 24) in the GLIAC Tournament in Midland. The match will get underway at 11 a.m. (ET) outside or at 9 a.m. (ET) if played indoors. The winner advances to the championship match on Sunday slated to start at either 11 a.m. (ET) or if indoors at 8:30 a.m.
