Ferris State Wraps Up Unbeaten Weekend With Shutout Over Hillsdale

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team closed out a home weekend of action with a 5-0 shutout over visiting Hillsdale on Sunday (Feb. 20) to remain perfect on the year inside the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs claimed their second home win of the weekend by beating a depleted Hillsdale squad in strong fashion, moving to 5-0 overall this year. The joined the Bulldog women's team as winners after they also beat Hillsdale at home by a 5-2 score on Sunday.

"It was a great day for Bulldog tennis and both of our teams played outstanding tennis," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "Hillsdale was down a few players due to injury, but our guys went into the match with the mentality their opponents were at full strength and dominated all parts of the court."

Ferris State picked up the first point of the contest by taking the two doubles matches that were played at the first and second spots, winning by a 6-3 score at one doubles and a 6-2 count at two doubles.

In the singles round, senior Mathis Guerre was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at the number one flight for the Bulldogs. Jan Koupil garnered a 6-1, 6-1 win at the fourth spot with Benjamin Lortie earning a victory at four singles by a score of 6-1, 6-0.

The Bulldogs also picked up forfeit wins at three doubles and six singles with both the second and fifth singles flights going unfinished after FSU had clinched the match.

Ferris State will host Grace (Ind.) on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.
