Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads wrapped up a weekend home sweep with a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victories over Lake Superior State on Saturday (March 26) inside the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs took the men's match by a decisive 6-1 count and battled for a 4-3 triumph in the women's contest, completing the weekend with a combined record of 4-0 overall with Saturday's sweep coming on the heels of a sweep over Michigan Tech on Friday.

Ferris State stayed unbeaten in conference men's competition, moving to 3-0 in the GLIAC and 11-2 on the year, with the women's squad vaulting to 2-1 in conference play and 7-5 overall this campaign.

The match was the final regular-season home contest this year for the men's squad, which celebrated senior day and honored seniors Mathis Guerre, Josh McDermott and Ayush Deswal.

"It was an outstanding day inside the Ferris State Tennis Center," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "The men started out the day with a convincing win over a much-improved Lake Superior State team and followed the match with a great ceremony celebrating the seniors after the contest.

"On the women's side, we were down 3-2 with two courts going," he added. "Sophie (Daavettila) had a great comeback win in three sets to tie it up and then Sam Stephenson served her way to a clinching victory. Everyone played well, but the determination showed by Sam and Sophie was fantastic."

Ferris State took the doubles point in both matches by winning two of the three flights in each. In singles play, the Bulldogs claimed five victories on the men's side and split the six on the women's end, including the three-set triumph from Daavettila along with the match-clinching victory from Stephenson in addition to Parker Nolan's win at four singles.

Both Ferris State squads hit the road next weekend for matches at Davenport on Friday (April 1) and Purdue Northwest on Saturday (April 2).
