
Ferris State Tennis Squads Fall In GLIAC Tournament Semifinals
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads fell in the 2025 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Semifinals on Saturday (April 26) at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.
The Bulldog men suffered a close 4-3 setback to Wayne State while the women dropped a 4-0 decision versus Grand Valley State.
Despite being eliminated, both Bulldog squads are potentially in line to receive NCAA Division II Tournament berths when the official pairings are announced in the near future.
The men's contest went to the wire as the Bulldogs took the early lead by winning the doubles point. The tandem of Adrian Catahan and Jose Perez were 6-4 winners at the one flight and the duo of Alessandro Santangelo and Felipe Iser came away with a 6-1 victory at two doubles.
In singles play, Iser scored a straight-set win at four singles and Catahan did likewise at six singles. However, WSU took the one, two and five flights in straight-sets and then got a tightly-contested 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) win at the third spot in the lineup.
In the women's contest, GVSU managed to take the doubles point with victories at the first and second spots. In singles play, the Lakers then captured wins in the first three completed matches at two, four and five singles to claim the victory and advance in the tournament.
Both teams had posted wins in opening day play at the GLIAC Tournament on Friday. With the two semifinal finishes, both FSU teams now hold identical 12-8 overall records and both were featured among the top five teams in the most recent NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings.
