
Ferris State Men's Tennis NCAA Tourney Run Comes To An End In Indy
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad saw its postseason run come to an end on Saturday (May 10) as the Bulldogs suffered a 4-0 setback to host Indianapolis in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional final near Indy.
The Bulldogs had knocked off Wayne State by a 4-3 score in their NCAA opener on Friday to reach the finals, but the Greyhounds proved to be too much despite a great effort from FSU.
UIndy jumped in front early by taking the doubles point in a closely-contested round. Ferris State got a win from the duo of Erik Kovacs and Kevin Kovacs by a 6-3 score at the top flight, but UIndy took the second flight 6-1 and pulled out a close 7-5 win at three doubles for the initial point of the match.
In the singles round, the Greyhounds took the second, fourth and fifth flights to come away with the win. The Bulldogs' Kevin Kovacs was midst a third set at one singles while Adrian Catahan held the advantage in his match at six singles. The third singles flight contest featuring Erik Kovacs was also closely-contested.
With the setback, the Bulldogs closed the campaign with a 13-9 overall record this year.
This season, the Bulldogs also made their 10th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and their 28th all-time trip.
