Ferris Track Tunes Up For GLIAC Championships
Mount Pleasant, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and
women's track and field teams took part in their final tuneups for
the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor
Championships by competing in the annual Jack Skoog Open hosted by
Central Michigan University on Friday (Feb. 19) evening in Mount
Pleasant.
The non-scoring event included teams such as FSU, CMU, Northwood,
Alma, Lake Superior State, Saginaw Valley State and St. Francis
(Ill.).
FSU's Justin Price won the men's 400 meters
(50.90) and was also third overall in the 200 meters (23.21).
Meanwhile, senior Mike Mangieri emerged victorious
among a field of 32 runners in the 3,000 meters (8:42.14).
Senior Greg Burns came in second overall in the
pole vault (15-7) and Dan Volk took fifth place in
the 800 meters (2:03.44).
J.J. Vandenburg placed eighth overall in both the
weight throw (49-3) and shot put (43-7.75) while Derrick
Bartlett finished eighth in the 800 meters (2:05.75).
Ferris also took fourth place in the men's 4x400-meter relay
(3:35.46) with a second relay quartet placing seventh (3:46.86) in
the same event.
Freshman Shelby Janutol won the women's 600
meters (1:43.38) in leading the FSU women's team. Freshman teammate
Alyssa Osika placed second (1:45.41) in the same
event.
In the women's mile run, the Bulldogs had three of the top five
finishers and four of the top seven overall as Osika came in second
(5:08.86), Janutol was fourth (5:21.01), Sarah
Creed wound up fifth (5:31.45) and Paige
Onweller placed seventh (5:37.15).
Ferris' Jade Kaufman was second in both the 200
meters (27.51) and the 400 meters (1:01.80).
Emily Cross finished third in the high jump (5-1)
along with fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.06) and
Jessica Schewe wound up tied for fourth place in
the pole vault (9-6.25).
Megan Josey finished sixth in the 3,000 meters
(11:05.75) while Jordan McGuire was eighth
(11:22.96) in the 3,000 meters. Onweller also came in eighth
overall in the 800 meters (2:29.35).
The GLIAC Championships will be held next Friday and Saturday,
Feb. 26-27, inside the Laker Turf Building at Allendale, Mich.
