FSU Track Competes In Two Weekend Meets

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams had a busy weekend as the Bulldogs sent student-athletes to a pair of meets on Friday and Saturday (April 22-23).

Selected student-athletes took part in Friday's Eastern Michigan Twilight Invitational in Ypsilanti with other team members competing on Saturday at the Aquinas Open held at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids.

A variety of schools from across the state and region at various levels competed in both non-scoring meets.

FSU's Zoey Hohmann won both the 200 meters (25.32) and 400 meters (56.54) at the Aquinas Open while freshman Jessica Pilling claimed the hammer throw (176-11) and Christa Cwiek was victorious in the javelin (112-0).

Freshman Brittany Anderson was second in the 1,500 meters (4:50.41) on Saturday with teammate Anna Rudd claiming third place (4:53.28) in the same event.  Shelby Janutol also placed among the top five in the 1,500 meters as she came in fifth overall (4:58.28).

Senior Megan Josey was fifth in the 5,000 meters (19:09.06) while Amy Joostberns finished fifth in the discus (128-11).

In the men's competition, FSU's Ryan Chute took runner-up honors in the 1,500 meters (3:57.96) and Alex Best finished third in the 5,000 meters (15:34.97).

Senior Justin Price was fifth in the 400 meters (50.64) and sixth in the 200 meters (22.64).  Meanwhile, Steve Neshkoff came in fifth overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:25.11) and J.J. Vandenburg took sixth in the hammer throw (162-1).

In Friday's Eastern Michigan Twilight, freshman Samantha Johnson captured fourth place in a competitive field of the 1,500 meters (4:33.98) with sophomore Alyssa Osika coming in seventh in the same event (4:36.47).

The Bulldogs will compete in the annual Hillsdale "Gina" Relays next Saturday (April 30) in Hillsdale, Mich.
