Bulldog Track Wraps Up GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads took part in the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Championships on Thursday and Friday (May 3-4) in Allendale.

The Bulldog women placed eighth overall with 48 points while the men's team finished 10th with 15 points in the annual league meet featuring 12 competing schools at the GVSU Track and Field/Lacrosse Stadium on the campus of host Grand Valley State.

Junior Zoey Hohmann won the 400 meters (55.02) in a national provisional qualification time and also took eighth place in the 200 meters (25.85).

Senior Tina Muir placed second overall in the 5,000 meters (16:16.39) while meeting the national automatic qualifying standard in the event.  Junior Anna Rudd claimed third place in the same event (17:09.52) and surpassed the national provisional time in the process.

The Bulldogs' Christa Cwiek came in third overall in the javelin (116-2) with Briana Raasio taking eighth place (106-5) in the event.

FSU's Shea Van Klompenberg was sixth in the 400 meters (57.53).  Meanwhile, sophomore Samantha Johnson came in sixth in the 1,500 meters (4:36.53).

Freshman Kristie LeSage was fifth in the 10,000 meters (38:36.09) with junior Felicia Slate coming in seventh in the same race (38:40.09).  Jessica Pilling wound up sixth in the hammer throw (176-11) and hit the national provisional qualification mark.

Ferris State also finished eighth in the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:03.51).

In the men's competition, Bulldog junior Ryan Chute placed fourth in the 1,500 meters (3:56.02).  Senior Justin Price finished fifth in the 400 meters (48.26).

Tyler Crossman was fifth in the 5,000 meters (15:01.38).  Freshman Blake Garver was eighth in the 1,500 meters (3:58.25).

The Bulldogs placed eighth in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:20.44).

Grand Valley State claimed both the women's and men's crowns with 239 and 213.50 points, respectively.
