Ferris State Track Teams Produce Six Top-Three Efforts On Final Day Of GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads wrapped up action in the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Championships with six top-three event performances in final round action on Friday (May 2) at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

The Bulldogs had one individual event champion along with two runner-up finishes and three third-place performances on the final day of the three-day competition. The league meet was hosted by Lake Erie College and included student-athletes from all 16 league member institutions.

FSU totaled 43 points on the women's side in placing ninth overall with the men's team recording 25 points en route to an 11th-place finish.

On the women's side, Ferris State senior Zoey Hohmann emerged as the GLIAC Champion in the 400 meters (56.00) with junior teammate Shea Van Klompenberg claiming second place (56.59) in the event.

FSU senior Alyssa Osika earned runner-up honors in the 800 meters (2:11.28) while Bulldog senior Anna Rudd was third overall in the 5,000 meters (17:08.22).

Junior Breeann Ovokaitys placed seventh in the 1,500 meters (4:36.23).

The Bulldog women also received sixth-place honors in the 4x400-meter relay (3:54.01) with a squad that included Van Klompenberg, Osika, Gabby Baur and Hohmann.

Meanwhile, freshman Damonta Madden paced the Bulldog men as he took third place in the 100 meters (10.95) and also claimed third place in the 200 meters (22.01).

Senior Alex Bladecki was fifth overall in the 800 meters (1:52.60) and senior Bill King took fifth place in the 1,500 meters (3:54.45). 

Junior Andrew Harper placed seventh in the 5,000 meters (14:50.88).

Selected Bulldog student-athletes will take part in the GVSU Last Chance meet hosted by Grand Valley State University on May 9 in Allendale.

The NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships are set for May 23-24 and will also be hosted by GVSU in Allendale with the official meet participants announced next week.
