Ferris State Track Posts 19 Top-10 Finishes At Bellarmine Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams got back to action this weekend as FSU took part in the Bellarmine Invitational on Friday and Saturday (April 8-9) in Louisville, Ky.

The meet was a late addition to the Bulldog schedule after weather cancelled the Michigan State Spartan Invitational over the weekend.

In the Bellarmine meet, the Bulldogs finished with a combined 19 top-10 performances, which also included five PR's on the first day alone.

Senior Shea Van Klompenberg took first place in the 400 meters (58.79) with junior teammate Shaleen Williams 10th overall (1:03.61) in the race. Williams also finished ninth in the 200 meters (27.09).

Junior Paige Koskinen placed fifth in the 800 meters (2:22.24) while freshman Sarah Utchel was fifth in the 200 meters (26.86) along with sixth in the 100 meters (12.72).

Sophomore Jessica Delaney wound up sixth in the 5,000 meters (17:52.39) and junior Molly Emerick came in sixth in the 800 meters on Friday (2:21.10). Emily Haynes placed eighth in the 5K (17:55.24) and Rachel Long was eighth in the hammer throw (141-8).

On the men's side, Brett Allpow won the discus (156-5). Junior Hayden Francisco was third in the javelin (158-2).

FSU's Damien Halverson captured third place in the 5,000 meters (15:32.12) and freshman Roan Fahey came in sixth (15:46.46) in the same event. Meanwhile, Zach McKenzie placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:36.41) and freshman Cody Stillwell took fourth in the hammer throw (174-4).

Junior Logan Hammer finished seventh in the 1,500 meters (4:00.29).

Sophomore Ross Miller placed eighth in the shot put (45-9.25) and freshman Casey Neal was ninth in the 1,500 meters (4:08.69).

The meet included student-athletes from a number of schools such as FSU, Bellarmine, Davenport, Lipscomb, Saginaw Valley State, Spalding, Brescia, Indianapolis, Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, Belmont, Trevecca Nazarene and more.

The Bulldogs are next in action on April 22-23 at the annual Al Owens Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale.
