FSU Track and Field Wraps Up 2016 GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. -- The Ferris State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams wrapped up the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday (May 6) at FSU's Top Taggart Field with several top eight finishers.

More than 800 student-athletes from 16 schools competed for both individual and team titles on the campus of Ferris State University during the three-day event. The competition was the first in the history of the new track surface at Top Taggart Field.

Junior Logan Hammer was the first of FSU's top eight finishers Friday with a 6th place finish in the men's 1500 meter run. Hammer ran a time of 3:59.88.

Senior Shea Van Klompenberg finished 7th in the women's 400 meter dash with a final time of 57.81.

In the women's 800 meter run, junior Molly Emerick took 7th place with a time of 2:16.69. In addition, sophomore Jessica Delaney also took home a 7th place finish for Ferris State in the women's 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:25.55.

Previously on Thursday, junior Gunnar Meyer took third overall in the Javelin with a throw of 169-7 for Ferris State, while junior Emily Haynes took fifth in the women's 10,000 meter run with a final time of 37:16.93.

Prior to this year, Ferris State last hosted the league outdoor meet in 2010 at Top Taggart Field and also played host to the event in both 2001 and 2006. Overall, this year marks the fourth time the Bulldogs have hosted the conference meet in the last 30 years as the event had not been held in Big Rapids since May 1, 1987, prior to the 2001 competition.

The 2016 GLIAC Championships represent the 44th annual men's conference meet and the 36th annual women's outdoor championships. All 16 GLIAC schools are represented.

Select Bulldog athletes will compete at the GVSU Last Chance meet next weekend May 13-14, in hopes of qualifying for this season's national championship, held in Florida.
