Ferris State Performs Well In Final Tune-Ups For GLIAC Outdoor Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads had their final tune-ups for the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships this weekend as FSU sent competitors to two different meets.

The Bulldogs had several student-athletes compete at the prestigious Hillsdale "Gina" Relays in Hillsdale while others took part in the Ashland University Alumni Open in Ohio.

The Bulldogs' Kathryn Etelamaki placed seventh in the 5,000 meters at the Gina Relays with a personal-best time of 17:20.21 overall. Kensington Garvey also notched a huge personal-best with a time of 18:36.71 in placing 60th in the large field with Kelly Babcock 71st (19:05.61).

On the men's side at Hillsdale, Zach Mckenzie was 47th in the 5K (15:27.31) and Damien Halverson came in 72nd (15:46.43) with Weston Rackley placing 91st (16:12.59). Both Mckenzie and Rackley lowered their personal-bests by more than 10 seconds.

The Bulldogs then had competitors at the Ashland Open. Ferris State's Sheridan Britney captured fourth place in the 400 meters (1:01.62) with sophomore Salix Sampson eighth (1:02.59) in the same race. Meanwhile, Carissa Schurr was fourth in the 800 meters (2:19.53).

The Bulldogs' Amanda Eslinger came in sixth overall in the high jump (5-1.75), which was her personal-best.

FSU's Sarah Utchel took 12th place in both the 100 (13.09) and 200 meters (26.58). Jennifer Eaton placed 12th in the 1,500 meters with a personal-best time (4:54.13) and Sydney Dawes was 15th (4:55.22). Reina Troxell took 14th place in the javelin (61-2) and Allyson Faulkner placed 15th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:15.17).

On the men's side, senior Jon Cok was the runner-up in the high jump (6-7). Freshman Dylan Hearns placed seventh in the 800 meters (1:59.92). Sophomore Stanley Williams came in 11th in the 200 meters (22.80) while Christian Hector was 11th in the 400 meters (52.75). Freshman Aaron Jarema finished 15th in the 5,000 meters (16:15.03).

The Bulldogs' Chris Triffo finished seventh in the javelin and threw a personal-best (161-0) and Cody Stilwell placed ninth ninth in the elite invite section of the hammer throw (196-6). Brett Allpow came in 10th in the discus (142-5) and was 14th in the hammer throw (165-1). Senior Ross Miller placed 15th in the hammer (161-1).

Ferris State will take part in the GLIAC Outdoor Championships May 2-4 back in Ashland, Ohio.
