FSU Men's CC Third At Hillsdale Meet

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's cross country team ran to a third-place overall team finish in the Charger Invitational hosted by Hillsdale College on Saturday (Oct. 16) in Hillsdale, Mich.

FSU totaled 98 team points in placing third overall among six competing teams in the first race ever ran on Hillsdale's new cross country course. HC won the event with 29 points followed by Grand Valley State with 30 points.

The meet served as a tune up in preparation for the 2010 GLIAC Cross Country  Championships, which Hillsdale will host on its new course later this season (Nov. 6).

Freshman David Silversmith paced FSU by placing 22nd overall on the 8K course in a time of 27:08.9 on Saturday.  He was followed by sophomroe Alex Bladecki in 25th place (27:14.2).

Freshman Bill King wound up 30th (27:27.4), sophomore Andrew Campbell was 34th (27:36.8), sophomore Josh Kyser came in 43rd (28:04.7) and freshman Connor LaRowe came in 54th (28:34.8).  Senior Derek Childs registered a 57th-place effort (28:44.2) in the field of 78 runners.

The men's 8K race was won by unattached competitor Kyle Stacks in a time of 25:45.8 overall.

Ferris State will return to action by sending selected competitors to the Eastern Michigan Classic on Saturday, Oct. 23, in Ypsilanti, Mich.
