Ferris State Cross Country Teams Run To High Finishes At Augustana Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams returned to action with a strong showing on Friday (Sept. 26) at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College (Ill.) at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.

The Bulldog men's team earned runner-up honors in the event while the women's team came in fourth overall as both teams ran for the first time in two weeks.

On the men's side, the University of Chicago won the team title with 74 points, just edging out the Bulldogs in second place with 77 points on the day. Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) came in third (78 points) and host Augustana was fourth (110 points) among the 39 competing schools.

FSU's Andrew Harper came in 12th overall (25:59.1) on the 8K course with Kyle Richardson a few spots behind in 15th place (25:34.1). 

Lucas Copi placed 17th overall (25:35.8) followed by Logan Hammer in 19th place (25:39.9) and Spencer Gerber in 24th place (25:46.5) as five FSU runners finished in the top 25 overall of more than 530 runners taking part in the event.

On the women's side, FSU netted 185 total points in finishing behind Chicago (115), Olivet Nazarene (146) and Bradley (166) in the top four overall. A total of 35 women's teams were in the draw.

FSU was led by Emily Haynes in 26th place (23:02.1) followed by Samantha Humphrey in 27th place (23:03.2) and Kristie LeSage in 31st place (23:12.9) overall. Ashley Hamilton came in 58th (23:47.7) with Kayla Smith 61st (23:52.9) and Alyssa Cummings 62nd (23:55.5) in the draw.

The women's field included nearly 500 participants.

The Bulldogs will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Northwood Invitational in Midland, Mich.
