Ferris State Cross Country Races In Michigan State Spartan Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country squads took part in one of their biggest competitions of the year on Friday (Sept. 14) as FSU competed in the 2018 Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University in East Lansing.

The 38th annual event, which is sponsored by Auto Owners Insurance, took place at Forest Akers East Golf Course and included runners from across the region. Schools such as Ferris State, MSU, Grand Valley State, Michigan, Youngstown State, HIllsdale, Calvin and more were represented in the large field.

The Bulldog men finished 13th overall in the team scoring while placing just in front of NCAA Division I Purdue Fort Wayne on the leaderboard. More than 20 schools were included in the field.

Bulldog senior Damien Halverson paced Ferris State by finishing 52nd overall in a time of 26:40.4 on the 8K course. He was followed by Zach Mckenzie in 85th place (27:26.9) with Aaron Jarema coming in 93rd overall (27:37.5).

The Bulldogs' top five finishers also included Weston Rackley in 126th place (28:24.9) and Donis Harris, who placed 142nd (28:50.3) overall.

In the women's race, the Bulldogs placed 11th overall with 257 total points in the 21-team field.

The Bulldog women were paced by Kathryn Etelamaki, who finished among the top 20 in 18th place overall at 22:16.4 on the 6K course.

Behind Etelamaki was Jennifer Eaton for the Bulldogs at 68th (24:03.0) with Hanna Loucks taking 74th overall (24:09.4). Kennsington Garvey came in 103rd (24:40.4) while Paige Deitering was 106th (24:46.4) and Katelyn Hutchison 115th (24:56.9).

Ferris State will compete in the Greater Louisville Classic on Sept. 29 in Louisville, Ky.
