Bulldog Women Win Lansing Invite With Men Fourth Overall In Cross Country Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country squads had a big day on Friday (Sept. 20) at the Lansing Invitational.

The Bulldog women claimed first-place in the team race with 83 total points, winning the 12-team field, while the men's squad finished in fourth place overall.

The women finished seven points in front of runner-up Grand Rapids Community College while Alma took third place overall. FSU's top five scoring runners all finished among the top 31 scorers overall.

Freshman Tessa Wohlschlegel led the Bulldogs with an eighth-place overall finish in a time of 20:02.0 on the 5K course.

Meanwhile, Abigail Winkle claimed 13th place (20:33.2) with Taylor Huntoon 14th (20:37.9) and Abby Griffith 30th (21:24.1). Junior Kaitlyn Thomas was 35th overall (21:52.9) for FSU in a field that included more than 120 total participants.

In the men's race, the Bulldogs finished with 95 total points. Lansing Community College claimed the men's team championship with 26 points followed by Harper College (88) and Lawrence Tech (90). A total of 13 schools competed in the men's event.

Sophomore Ben Scott led the Bulldogs with a 14th-place effort in the 8K race, clocking 27:28.1. He was followed by Aaron Bowerman in 15th place (27:30.0) with David Harris 27th (28:00.5). Mick Robinson claimed 30th place (28:14.3) and Jose Flores was 31st (28:16.6).

The Bulldogs next will take part in the Live In the Lou Classic set for Oct. 5 in Louisville, Ky.
