FSU Completes GLIAC Sweep With Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team wrapped up a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader sweep with a 7-1 victory over Hillsdale in the nightcap on Friday (April 29) at Williams Field in Hillsdale, Mich.

After four scoreless innings, the Bulldogs struck for three runs in the fifth and added four more in the sixth en route to the triumph.

With the two wins on Friday, Ferris State improves to 18-20 overall and 15-11 in conference action.

Ferris State gave up only four hits for the game, including only a single hit over the first five innings of the contest.  Meanwhile, FSU tallied nine hits at the plate.

Sophomore designated player Lindsey Pettit started off the scoring by registering her seventh home run of the campaign to lead off the fifth inning for the Bulldogs.  Later in the inning, a single to left field from junior third baseman Makenzi Peterson coupled with a Hillsdale throwing error scored two runs as FSU took a 3-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs added four more runs on a pair of hits and a Charger error in the sixth.  Pettit drove in three runs with her second home run of the game after two walks started off the inning.  Sophomore Brittney Buti later scored off an RBI from senior right fielder Colleen Roney for FSU's final run of the contest.

Hillsdale's lone run came in the top of the seventh as the Bulldogs totaled two errors in the inning.

Pettit had a game-high three hits for the Bulldogs and tallied four runs batted in for the contest.  The Bulldogs also received a pair of hits each from Roney and Peterson.

Freshman Amy Dunleavy notched the pitching victory as she gave up only a single run and walked none over seven innings in the complete game performance for her sixth win of the year.  She finished with five strikeouts.

Laura Homan also went the distance in the circle for the Chargers and suffered the loss.  The four Hillsdale hits came from four different players.

The two teams will square off against each other again on Saturday (April 30) in another league twinbill at Williams Field.  Game one starts at 1 p.m. (ET) with the second game to follow.

Ferris State then returns home for its final league regular-season action on Sunday (May 1) with a doubleheader against Northwood at the FSU Softball Field starting at 12 p.m. (ET).
