Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State softball team bounced back from an early morning loss in a big way as the Bulldogs dominated Southwest Minnesota State in a 10-1 victory on Thursday (March 8) at the Osceola Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Fla.
The Bulldogs had suffered a 4-1 setback to Holy Family (Pa.) in their initial game of the morning at the Florida Rebel Spring Games, but started quickly in game two by jumping out to a 7-0 advantage midway thru the second inning.
FSU scored four times in the first and added three runs in both the second and third frames with Southwest Minnesota State scoring its lone run in the bottom of the second.
Overall, the Bulldogs pounded out 15 hits while giving up only five in earning the victory in only five innings of work.
Dana Bowler pitched all five innings for the Bulldogs and allowed only a single run. She faced 20 batters and had three strikeouts with one walk. Neither team had an error in the field.
Senior outfielder Stephanie Dusendang recorded three hits and had four RBI's at the plate for the Bulldogs. She twice doubled in the contest while both senior third baseman Makenzi Peterson and second baseman Lainee Clay also boht had a double as one of their two hits apiece in the
Besides Dusendang's four RBI's, the Bulldogs also received a pair of RBI's and two hits from senior first baseman Chelsea Morris.
Southwest Minnesota State's Rachel Hoeppner fell to 2-2 overall this season with the pitching loss as the Mustangs utilized three different players in the circle.
The Mustangs' lone run came on a solo homer from freshman Chelsey Rodenkirch, who belted her first career home run to left center.
FSU avenged an earlier 3-2 loss in Florida to Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday (March 4) with the victory.
The Bulldogs, who have four remaining games in the Sunshine State, improved to 5-5 overall this season with the triumph.
Ferris State will play two more games on Friday (March 9) as the Bulldogs face St. Cloud State at 1 p.m. (ET) followed by a 3 p.m. (ET) tilt versus California (Pa.) at the Rebel Spring Games.
