FSU Wraps Up Regular-Season With Sweep

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team swept Lake Superior State to wrap up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season action on Tuesday (April 24) afternoon in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

FSU topped the Lakers by scores of 7-1 in game one and 5-3 in the second contest to finish the regular-season with a 28-22 overall record and a 19-13 GLIAC slate.

The Bulldogs will be the number five overall seed for the GLIAC Tournament and will square off against fourth-seeded Ohio Dominican on Friday (April 27) to open the event in Findlay, Ohio.  The double-elimination tournament runs from Friday thru Sunday (April 29) and will be played at the Marathon Diamond Fields.  FSU's opening game is scheduled for 10 a.m. (ET) on Friday.

In game one against LSSU, the Bulldogs bolted out to a 2-0 lead with a single run in both the first and second innings.  After the Lakers had trimmed the margin to a single run, the Bulldogs tacked on three more runs in the sixth and scored two in the seventh to put the game away.

Junior Dana Bowler pitched all seven innings and allowed only a single run on three hits.  She struck out eight batters and walked just three in the complete-game victory.

The Bulldogs piled up 12 hits on LSSU's Jillian Willette, who also went the distance.  She walked three in the circle and posted three strikeouts while giving up seven runs.

Seniors Makenzi Peterson and Stephanie Dusendang along with Lindsey Pettit all recorded two hits each for the Bulldogs at the plate.  Both Dusendang and Amy Dunleavy drove in two runs apiece.  Pettit doubled twice while Peterson, senio Chelsea Morris and Dusendang all had two-baggers as well.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the second and three times in the third to build a 5-0 advantage in the nightcap.  LSSU managed to cut the margin to two runs by scoring twice in the fourth and once in the fifth, but could get no closer as the Bulldogs shut the door over the final two frames.

Dunleavy pitched the second game for FSU and allowed only three runs on eight hits over seven innings.  She had six strikeouts and walked none in the victory.  Both teams finished with eight hits in the contest.  Felicia Gingrich hurled all six innings on the Lake Superior State side, but did not strike out anyone.

Peterson tallied a pair of doubles while increasing her total to 16 on the season in helping lead the offensive attack.  Pettit also had a strong game at the plate with two hits, including a double and her eighth home run of the campaign.  She posted two RBI's.  Dunleavy also doubled at the plate for FSU.
