Ferris State Earns Second-Straight Softball Split On Day Two In Florida

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad earned its second consecutive split in Florida as the Bulldogs hit the field for two more games on Monday (March 5) at The Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.

FSU fell to Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) in day two action by a 4-2 score before responding with a 7-3 triumph over Seton Hill (Pa.) in evening action.

In the opener, CSUP scored all four of its runs in the third inning with the Bulldogs managing only a pair of runs in the fourth to account for the final score. FSU was outhit 8-3 in the game.

The Bulldogs' Katie Scheuer produced two RBI's as she belted a home run while both Lexi Hongisto and Kodi Ramirez also notched hits in the setback.

Hannah Leppek threw two and two-thirds innings while giving up four runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout. Meawnhile, Abby Highway threw in relief and allowd only four hits.

Ferris State came back in game two and topped Seton Hill for its second win of the season. FSU totaled at least one run in each of its final four at-bats, including a four-run fourth inning while pounding out 10 total hits in the game.

Ramirez doubled and had three RBI's with center fielder Paige Kortz also driving in a pair of runs. Emily Reed and Hongisto each had a single RBI in the victory. Overall, Kortz tallied three hits while Reed and leftfielder Emily Smith both had two.

Senior Sam Bates earned the win after giving up only three runs on 13 hits with three strikeouts.

Ferris State returns to action on Tuesday (March 6) with matchups against St. Cloud State (Minn.) and Lewis (Ill.) beginning at 9 a.m. (ET) and 11 a.m. (ET), respectively.
