FSU Drops First Two League Games At Nationally 23rd-Ranked Grand Valley State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's softball squad opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Sunday (March 18), but suffered a pair of close setbacks to rival and nationally 23rd-ranked Grand Valley State in Allendale.

FSU dropped the first game by a 3-0 score before falling in the nightcap 2-0 against the Lakers in a doubleheader that was moved up a few days.

In the opener, the Lakers produced 10 hits to three for the Bulldogs and scored a single run in the first, third and fifth innings to post the win.

Ferris State's three hits included a pair of hits from senior catcher Emily Reed along with one by second baseman Lexee Summers.

Senior Sam Bates pitched the first game and allowed three runs and 10 hits with two strikeouts and a walk in six innings of work.

In the nightcap, the Lakers scored the only two runs of the game in the third and held FSU off the board. The Lakers had six hits to four for FSU.

Shortstop Kodi Ramirez had two hits in the final game with both Emily Smith and Reed producing one each.

FSU's Abby Highway threw all six innings and allowed two runs and six hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Ferris State returns to action on Saturday (March 24) on the road at Purdue Northwest starting at 2 p.m. (ET) and 4 p.m. (ET), respectively.
