Ferris State Softball Resumes Action With Big Weekend Of League Play

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's softball squad had a full weekend of action as FSU resumed Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a pair of twinbills against Purdue Northwest and Davenport on the road in league action.

On Saturday (March 24), FSU fell to league newcomer Purdue Northwest by scores of 14-5 in game one and 8-0 in the nightcap as both games went five innings each.

Then, on Sunday (March 25), the Bulldogs suffered a 4-0loss at Daveport in the opener before winning a close 3-2 decision.

In Sunday's opener, Ferris State was limited to a single hit from senior Emily Reed in the shutout decision. Senior Sam Bates hurled all six innings and allowed only four runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Three of DU's four runs came in the fourth inning.

Finally, in game two, FSU fought back from a 2-1 setback to earn the win. The Bulldogs got two hits from first baseman Sarah Meredith, who had an RBi in the win. Meredith produced a pair of doubles with Reed earning one in the triumph.

The Bulldogs' Abby Highway hurled seven innings with two runs and seven hits allowed. She also had five K's.

Ferris State is slated to play its home opener on Friday (March 30) at the FSU Softball Field in Big Rapids starting at 2 p.m. (ET) for game one and 4 p.m. (ET) for game two, weather permitting.
