Bulldog Softball Drops Two Games In Day Two Action In Florida

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad suffered a pair of setbacks in day two action on Sunday (March 8) at The Spring Games in Auburndale, Fla.

The Bulldogs dropped a thrilling 7-6 decision in extra innings to Bentley (Mass.) in the opener before falling to Minnesota State 10-3 in the nightcap.

In the opening game, the Bulldogs fell behind 4-0 after the first two innings but cut the margin in half with two runs in the top of the third. FSU added a run in the fourth and one more in the sixth to tie up the game, which eventually went to extra innings. Bentley got the win, though, as FSU put two runs on the board in the top of the eighth before they answered with three in the bottom of the frame for the walk-off win.

FSU's Kodi Ramirez tallied three hits for the Bulldogs while Evelyn Blood notched two hits. Kylie Winkels drove in a pair of runs with both Ramirez and Kaitlyn Orme adding an RBI each.

Winkels doubled while Orme homered in the setback.

Bulldog senior pitcher Abby Highway allowed six runs on seven hits in three and one-thirds of an inning while posting two strikeouts and walking three. Meanwhile, Connor Proctor hurled three and two-thirds of an inning with two hits allowed to go with three walks and a strikeout.

In game two, the Bulldogs gave up four runs to Minnesota State in the fourth after three scoreless innings. The Mavericks added a single run in the fifth and five more in the sixth. FSU posted its only three runs in the bottom of the sixth but could get no closer.

Ramirez led the Bulldogs with two hits while Orme had all three RBI's for the Bulldogs, who were outhit 13-6 overall. Orme homered and Ramirez doubled in the game.

FSU's Kaitlyn Nugent tossed four innings and gave up four runs on five hits with a single strikeout and a walk. Kristie Gray threw three frames and allowed six runs on eight hits with two walks.

The Bulldogs will be back on the field for day three action in Florida on Monday (March 9) against Wayne State College (Neb.) and Nyack starting at 1:45 p.m. (ET) and 4 p.m. (ET), respectively.
