Bulldog Softball Returns To Field With Wednesday Split At The Spring Games

Big Rapids, Mich. - After a day off, the Ferris State University softball team returned to the field at The Spring Games in Florida and earned a split on Wednesday (March 11) in Auburndale, Fla.

The Bulldogs fell to Lewis (Ill.) by a 3-0 score in regional action before bouncing back to record a 6-0 shutout win over Post University in the finale.

In the opener, Ferris State was narrowly outhit by a 7-6 margin, but the Flyers generated the only three runs of the game in the top of the second and the score held up.

Six different FSU players registered a hit in the game and Madison McLeod had a double in the setback.

Senior pitcher Abby Highway tossed all seven innings, giving up three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in the game.

The Bulldogs came back with a strong effort in the nightcap as they totaled 12 hits to only five for Post in the 6-0 win. All six runs for FSU came in the top of the third.

FSU's Kylie Winkels along with Paige Kortz, Kaitlyn Orme, Jessica Tucci and Ali Magiera all notched two hits apiece for the Bulldogs. Meanwhile, Evelyn Blood homered and totaled two RBI's in the victory.

Ferris State's Connor Proctor picked up the shutout win as she hurled all seven innings and allowed only five hits with three strikeouts on 80 pitches.

The Bulldogs have four games remaining in the Sunshine State and will return to the field on Thursday (March 12) with a pair of contests versus Assumption and Upper Iowa starting at 9:15 a.m. (ET) and 11:15 a.m. (ET), respectively.
