Bulldogs Drop Hard Fought Series To Grand Valley

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team lost a close pair of contests by scores of 2-0 and 6-3 to the Grand Valley State Lakers on Wednesday (April 14) at the FSU Softball Field in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

In game one, freshman pitcher Aryn Gallacher navigated a complete game, allowing just two runs on seven hits with a pair of strike outs and four walks. 

At the dish, freshman second baseman Kacey Bouche had a pair of hits. Senior centerfielder Paige Kortz swiped two bags while senior shortstop Kodi Ramirez stole one. 

For the Lakers, Hannah Beatus struck out nine over seven innings and scattered just five hits in the circle.

In game two, Ferris State struck for nine hits, led by three for Ramirez. The top of the order accounted for six Bulldog hits. Ferris State junior catcher Ali Magiera and sophomore left fielder Justice Ruggles walked in a run each in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore right fielder Kylie Winkels doubled home Bouche in the bottom of the second for a 3-1 Bulldog lead.

GVSU scored five unanswered runs, three of which were driven in by Nikoma Holmen. Morgan Wagner added two RBI's for the Lakers.

Ferris State had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when redshirt freshman Amara Zukowski hammered a shot to left field with one on base, but the stiff breeze killed the ball at the fence and the Lakers escaped the inning. 

In the circle, Genesis Eggart picked up the win with three strikeouts. Eggart gave up nine hits and four walks on the day. Ferris State sophomore pitcher Kristie Gray gave up six runs on nine hits, walked a pair of Lakers and struck out three.

Ferris State heads to Midland to take on the Northwood Timberwolves on Sunday (April 18) in a league doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. (ET) for game one and 2 p.m. (ET) for the finale.
