Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball program celebrated Senior Day on Saturday (May 1), coming away with a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home split against the Purdue Northwest Pride at the FSU Softball Field.

On a day in which the Bulldogs honored three seniors, FSU fell in the opener by a 5-1 score, but pulled out a 2-1 victory in the finale. Ferris State finished its weekend homestand by capturing three of four contests to remain in the hunt for a potential GLIAC Tournament berth.

Ferris State seniors Kodi Ramirez, Madison McLeod and Kylie Masko were all honored following the doubleheader and each saw action on the day.

In the opener, Purdue Northwest scored in each of its first three at-bats, totaling two runs in the first, one in the second and two more in the third in building a 5-0 edge. The Bulldogs put a run on the board in the fifth and had opportunities late, but fell short in the 5-1 setback despite matching PNW with seven hits each.

The Bulldogs' Kacey Bouche homered in the game to account for FSU's lone run while Ramirez posted a team-high two hits in the game.

Bulldog freshman Aryn Gallacher earned the start in the pitching circle and allowed five runs on seven hits with a strikeout and a walk in two innings of work. Kristie Gray tossed five innings of scoreless action and did not allow a hit with three K's and a walk.

In game two, Ferris State scored in the third and the fourth to take a 2-0 edge and held off the Pride down the stretch. Purdue Northwest outhit FSU 8-6, but scored its only run in the fifth.

The Bulldogs were led at the plate by outfielder Paige Kortz with two hits. Kaitlyn Orme had a hit and an RBI with a double in the game while Ramirez also drove in a run. McLeod also registered a hit on Senior Day with third baseman Amara Zukowski accounting for the Bulldogs' final hit.

In the circle, Kaitlyn Nugent went five and one-third innings and allowed only a single earned run on seven hits with three K's and a walk. Masko came on to finish the game, pitching one and two-thirds of an inning in her Senior Day game and did not allow a run on one hit.

The Bulldogs have four regular-season games remaining and will first visit Wayne State on Tuesday (May 4) for a league doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m. (ET). FSU then returns home to host Saginaw Valley State in the regular-season finale on Wednesday (May 5) beginning at 1 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Softball Field.
