Bulldog Softball Stretches Win Streak To Three Games With Sweep At Lewis Dome Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team stretched its winning streak to three consecutive games with a pair of one-run decisions on Thursday (Feb. 24) at the Lewis Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill.

The Bulldogs topped Ursuline 7-6 in eight innings in the opening game of the event before closing out the day with a 6-5 win over McKendree.

In the opener, the Bulldogs fell behind by two runs after three innings, but scored once in the fourth and four times in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead. The Arrows answered with three runs in the sixth, but Ferris State plated two runs in the bottom of the eighth to garner the win despite being outhit slightly by a 10-9 count.

For Ferris State, outfielder Kylie Winkels posted three RBI's on two hits while Josie Prince had three hits with an RBI and a run scored. FSU's Katelyn Gabos added two RBI's in the win.

The Bulldogs got a two-run homer from Winkels to go with triples from both Prince and Kaitlyn Fick with Evelyn Blood notching a double.

Meanwhile, Kristie Gray pitched five innings and allowed only four earned runs on eight hits while Aryn Gallacher tossed three innings of scoreless action with two hits allowed and a strikeout.

In the finale, McKendree scored the only run of the first before Ferris State answered with three runs in the third. The opposition added a run in the fourth to trim the game to 3-2 and then both teams scored three runs in the fifth with FSU holding McKendree off the board in the final two frames. Overall, FSU had eight hits to six for McKendree.

Both Blood and Gabos totaled two hits in the second game as did third baseman Amara Zukowski. Gabos drove in three runs as well and homered in the game with Prince earning a double.

In the circle, Mckenzie Cleland threw four innings of work with two runs allowed on three hits to go with two walks and two strikeouts. Gray tossed three innings and gave up two earned run on three hits with four K's and two walks.

The Bulldogs conclude action at the Lewis Dome Invitational in Rosemont on Saturday (Feb. 26) against Truman State and Hillsdale starting at 2:30 p.m. (ET) and 7 p.m. (ET), respectively.
