Ferris State Returns To Field In Florida Before Weather Impacts Nightcap

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad returned to the field on Wednesday (March 9) following an off day at The Spring Games in Florida, but had weather impact its scheduled non-league doubleheader.

The Bulldogs managed to get the opening game in and fell to Sioux Falls (S.D.) by a 7-2 score before weather forced the cancellation of the second game in the fourth inning against Lindenwood, which was ruled a no contest.

In the game versus Sioux Falls, FSU jumped in front first by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth following three full scoreless innings of action. However, USF answered with three runs in the fifth and added one more in the sixth followed by three in the seventh while holding FSU off the board the rest of the way.

Overall, Sioux Falls finished with nine total hits to five for FSU, which also had three errors in the field.

The Bulldogs were paced by designated player Evelyn Blood, who had two hits. FSU also got hits from first baseman Kaitlyn Orme along with second baseman Josie Prince and catcher Ali Magiera. Orme accounted for the lone RBI on a triple while Blood doubled in the game.

In the circle, Mckenzie Cleland tossed four and one-thirds of an inning, walking four and striking out two while giving up three runs on five hits. Aryn Gallacher pitched two and one-third of a frame and had both a strikeout and a walk, giving up four hits. Finally, Kristina Baar tossed one out and finished with a walk and a K.

With the setback, FSU is now 8-7 overall this season.

The Bulldogs have four games remaining on the Florida slate and will face Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday (March 10) at 2:30 p.m. (ET) before facing Notre Dame (Ohio) in afternoon action at 4:45 p.m. (ET).
