Bulldog Softball Drops Pair Of Tight Thursday Games In Sunshine State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad suffered a pair of close setbacks on Thursday (March 10) in action at The Spring Games in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Bulldogs dropped a 10-8 decision to Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) in the opener on Thursday before falling 8-7 to Notre Dame (Ohio) in regional action at the event.

In game one against Trevecca Nazarene, the Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-0 lead thru two innings of action, which included scoring six runs in the first frame, but could not hold on as the opposition put four runs on the board in the third and then five in the fifth to take the lead en route to the win. Trevecca pounded out 15 hits to 10 for FSU.

Ferris State was led at the plate by Amara Zukowski with three hits while Kaitlyn Orme totaled a pair of hits. Seven different players each had one RBI and both Orme along with Evelyn Blood scored twice apiece. Outfielder Kylie Winkels doubled in the game.

For the Bulldogs, Aryn Gallacher pitched five innings and gave up only three earned runs on nine hits with six K's and five walks. Kristina Baar threw two innings and allowed six hits while striking out two and walking two.

In game two, Ferris State took a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the third versus Notre Dame (Ohio), but allowed four runs in the sixth in suffering the setback. FSU was outhit 12-9 for the game.

Winkels produced three hits for the Bulldogs with Paige Kortz totaling two. Both also scored twice while Zukowski and Katelyn Gabos each drove in a pair of runs.

FSU's Kristie Gray pitched all six innings for the Bulldogs and allowed two earned runs on eight hits with three K's and a walk.

The Bulldogs wrap up action at The Spring Games against West Virginia Wesleyan and Wayne State (Neb.) on Friday (March 11) with game times set for 9 a.m. (ET) and 11:15 a.m. (ET), respectively.
