Trio Of Ferris State Softball Standouts Earn All-GLIAC Honors For 2022 Season

Big Rapids, Mich. - Three Ferris State University softball standouts were tabbed as All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) selections for the 2022 campaign as the league announced its postseason award recipients this past weekend in conjunction with the conference tournament in Sandusky, Ohio.

The Bulldogs' senior centerfielder Paige Kortz (Brooklyn/Napoleon) garnered All-GLIAC First Team accolades in voting by the league's member head coaches while the duo of first baseman Evelyn Blood (Jenison) and right fielder Kylie Winkels (Rockford) both received GLIAC Honorable Mention laurels this year.

Kortz led the Bulldogs this season and ranked among the GLIAC leaders in numerous statistical categories after hitting .383 on the year. She produced 62 hits and drove in 40 runs in 51 games while notching a school single-season record 12 home runs in addition to seven doubles and two triples. She also posted a .673 slugging percentage and stole nine bases for FSU while scoring 45 total runs.

Meanwhile, Blood hit .347 overall on the year and also played in all 51 games for the Bulldogs. She finished the campaign with 51 hits, 21 RBI's, seven doubles and two triples in 147 at-bats this campaign. Overall, She also scored 31 runs this season.

Finally, Winkels notched a .344 batting average and came up with 53 hits and 31 RBI's in 51 contests. She also tallied nine doubles with three triples and five home runs while posting a .539 slugging percentage. Winkels scored 32 times and drew 21 walks in addition to recording a squad-best 12 stolen bases for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State concluded the 2022 campaign by reaching the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals this past weekend in Ohio. The bulk of the Bulldog roster is eligible to return next season following a year in which FSU won 19 games and picked up the program's first postseason win since 2016.
