FSU Women Drop Opening Game Of Trip

Evansville, Ind. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team hit the floor for the first time in more than two weeks, but came out on the short end of a 71-52 decision against Southern Indiana on Wednesday (Dec. 30) evening at Evansville, Ind.

The host Screaming Eagles forced 22 FSU turnovers in the opening 20 minutes while building a 40-24 halftime edge at the Physical Activities Center. They then outscored FSU by three points over the final 20 minutes to account for the margin.

The game was FSU's first since a league road loss back on Dec. 12 at Hillsdale.

Sophomore guard Tricia Principe paced Ferris State with 14 points in the setback while junior guard Becci Houdek added nine points and seven rebounds.  Junior forward Tiara Adams tallied a game-high 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs shot 48.7% (19-39) for the game, but finished wtih 39 turnovers in the outing.  FSU was four-of-eight (50%) beyond the three-point line and made 10-of-15 (66.7%) free throws.

Meanwhile, the Screaming Eagles sank 44.8% (26-58) of their field goal tries and six-of-21 (28.6%) long-range attempts in addition to 13-of-19 (68.4%) shots from the charity stripe.
USI totaled 23 turnovers of its own, but also maintained a 33-26 rebounding edge with seven offensive boards.

Amie Newhart led Southern Indiana with a contest-best 16 points while Ellen Young contributed 13 points in a balanced effort.

Southern  Indiana improved to 11-2 overall with the victory while Ferris fell to 2-7 this campaign with the loss.

FSU wraps up its two-game road swing to Indiana by visiting Oakland City on Thursday (Dec. 31) night for a 6 p.m. (EST) New Year's Eve outing in Oakland City, Ind.

Bulldog Bites: The Screaming Eagles improved to 6-2 all-time versus FSU with the victory in the eighth series' matchup ....... The Bulldogs have now won only once in four tries at Evansville ...... The Bulldogs started the game by taking a four-point lead with 14:40 to play in the first frame .... The loss was the fourth-straight this year for the Bulldogs.
