Bulldog Women's Hoops Falls To Northwood On Road

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team suffered a 70-46 setback to the Northwood Timberwolves in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Thursday (Jan. 19) night in Midland.

The Bulldogs, who came into the game first in the GLIAC North Division standings, shot only 24.7% from the floor in the contest in falling to 9-5 overall and 8-3 in conference action.

Junior guard Sarah DeShone paced the Bulldogs with 13 points while both redshirt freshman guard Katie Mavis and junior forward Ashley Rando added 10 points each.

Northwood was led by Aleigha Wylie, Rachel Church and Sarah Spring, who all paced Northwood with 13 points apiece as NU improved to 8-9 overall and 6-5 in conference play.

The Timberwolves scored 11 of the first 13 points of the game to take the early advantage.  FSU fought back to take the lead at 28-27, but Northwood scored the final 10 points of the half to earn a 37-28 lead at the break. 

NU finished the opening half 14-30 from the floor (46.7%) and 4-10 from 3-point range (40.0%).  FSU went 11-36 from the floor (30.6%) and 2-10 from beyond the arc (20.0%).

Northwood dominated the second half by holding FSU to 18.9% from the floor (7-37) and 10% from 3-point range (1-10).  Ferris State got no closer than 11 points in the final 20 minutes.

For the game, Northwood finished at 44.8% (26-58) overall and 8-22 from 3-point range (36.4%).  The Bulldogs finished at 24.7% (18-73) overall and 15% (3-20) from 3-point range.

FSU finished with 27 offensive rebounds to 17 for Northwood, but both teams finished with 18 second chance points.  NU's bench was also a huge part of the win, by outscoring the Bulldog reserves 36-2 on the night.

Besides the three players in double-digits, FSU also received eight points from senior guard Kylie Muntz.  Mavis paced the Bulldogs with seven rebounds while Rando had four steals in the setback. 

FSU totaled 12 steals in the game and had 15 turnovers compared to Northwood's seven steals and 18 miscues.

Ferris State will visit Lake Superior State on Saturday, Jan. 19, for a 3 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
