Ferris State Women's Basketball Falls To NCAA Division I Toledo In Exhibition Play

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad wrapped up its 2014-15 exhibition slate with a 66-35 setback at NCAA Division I Toledo (Ohio) on Saturday (Nov. 8) at Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio.

The host Rockets led wire-to-wire in the win as they limited FSU to only 21.7 (13-60) shooting, which included a three-of-29 (10.3) figure from three-point range.

Meanwhile, Toledo shot 44.6% (25-56) overall from the floor and hit on 30.8% (8-26) of its three-point tries to go with an eight-of-18 (44.4%) showing at the free throw line.

Michaela Rasmussen and Brenae Harris led the Rockets with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Toledo also received nine points from Janice Monakana while four others totaled six points each.

On the Ferris State side, the Bulldogs were led by junior center Christina Branch, who had eight points on four-of-six shooting. Junior guard Destiney Robinson added seven points, but no other player scored more than four for FSU.

The Rockets held a decided advantage on the boards with 61 rebounds to 28 for the Bulldogs. They also grabbed 17 offensive rebounds to only six for Ferris State.

On the positive side, the Bulldogs did force 29 turnovers and came up with 21 steals in the setback. Junior guard Katie Mavis totaled a contest-high eight steals for the Bulldogs while sophomore guard Ally Christman added three.

FSU had 15 turnovers of its own in addition to seven assists while Toledo netted 17 assists, six steals and a pair of blocked shots in the contest.

The Bulldogs trailed by 15 points at halftime, 32-17, before the Rockets outscored FSU 34-18 over the final 20 minutes of action.

Ferris State will open the regular-season against Kentucky Wesleyan at the Pops Duncan Classic hosted by Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville (Tenn.) on Nov. 21. The Bulldogs then face the host school the following day on Nov. 22.
