Late Bulldog Comeback Falls Short As FSU Drops Women's GLIAC Contest At Northwood

Midland, Mich. - A late comeback fell just short for the Ferris State University women's basketball squad as the Bulldogs dropped a 65-61 road decision to Northwood on Thursday (Feb. 12) at the Bennett Sports Center in Midland.

The Bulldogs trailed by as many as 11 points in the opening half and were down 38-28 at halftime before rallying and trimming the margin to as few as two points down the stretch. However, FSU could not get the go-ahead basket as NU held on for the win.

Ferris State outscored NU 33-27 in the second half of the contest.

FSU was paced by junior guard Katie Mavis, who tallied 18 points for the Bulldogs. Senior forward Ashley Rando chipped in 12 points and junior guard Destiney Robinson added 10 points to help the Bulldog cause

Northwood was paced by Gabrielle Rivette with 23 points. Maddy Seeley chipped in 16 points and Sarah Susan totaled 12 points in the NU victory. The three also combined to make 11-of-19 (57.9%) three-point attempts for the Timberwolves while accounting for all of NU's scoring from beyond the arc.

FSU shot 43.1% for the game, but connected on only three-of-13 (23.1%) three-point attempts and finished 14-of-21 (66.7%) at the free throw line.

Meanwhile, Northwood hit on 46% of its field goals and also was eight-of-15 (53.3%) at the line in addition to the 11-of-19 (57.9%) showing from three-point range.

Ferris State owned a 35-26 rebounding edge and grabbed 11 offensive boards to six for the Timberwolves. FSU also had 16 turnovers compared to 17 for Northwood and the Bulldogs held a 14-7 margin in points off miscues.

FSU also finished with eight steals, including three from Mavis, to go with eight assists and two blocked shots. NU had nine steals, 18 assists and two blocks in the game.

The Bulldogs dropped to 9-12 overall and 7-11 in league play with the setback while Northwood improved to 15-9 overall and 11-7 in GLIAC action.

Ferris State continues its three-game road swing by visiting Lake Superior State on Saturday (Feb. 14) in Sault Ste. Marie. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. (ET) and the game can be heard live on Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network online at FerrisStateBulldogs.com.

FSU then visits Hillsdale on Feb. 19 before closing the regular-season with back-to-back home games versus Saginaw Valley State on Feb. 21 and rival Grand Valley State on Feb. 26.
