Visiting Northwood Hands Ferris State Home Setback In GLIAC Women's Play

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team had three players reach double-figure scoirng, but the Northwood Timberwolves came away victorious on Thursday (Feb. 11) night inside Jim Wink Arena with a 85-56 decision in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Bulldogs kept the game close in the first quarter before the Timberwolves outscored Ferris State 23-13 in the second frame to take a 43-28 lead into halftime.         

In the opening half, Northwood went 10-of-10 from the free throw line. FSU took only three shots from the charity strip in the first half.            

On the glass, the Timberwolves outmuscled Ferris State, especially in the first half with a 23-14 margin, leading to 10 second-chance points in the opening two quarters.            

Ferris State's strongest quarter came in the fourth as the two teams battled to a one-point difference.           

The Bulldogs were led offensively by sophomore forward Rachel McInerney, who had 12 points. Senior guard Katie Mavis and freshman forward Abby Nakfoor each had 11 points in the setback. 

McInerney also had a game-high five blocks and tied for the team lead in rebounds with five on the night. Senior forward Alexis Huntey also had five rebounds for the evening despite battling foul trouble.     

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves were boosted by the performances of Jordyn Nurenburg and Lauren Robak, who each reached double-digits with strong offensive games.           

Nurenburg had a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds while Robak finished with 24 points and five rebounds. Nurenburg shot 11-of-16 from the field.           

Northwood spread the ball around with Maddy Seeley's four assists leading the Timberwolves, as they finished with 21 helpers to Ferris State's 15 overall.           

The Bulldogs committed 18 turnovers to Northwood's 13 for the game. The Timberwolves also had a big edge on the glass, outrebounding the Bulldogs 46-26 for the evening.

Northwood did a good deal of their damage in the paint, outscoring 50-30 down low. NU moved to 14-10 overall with the victory.

Ferris State returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 13) at Wink Arena versus the Lake Superior State Lakers starting at 1 p.m. (ET). All fans are encouraged to wear red for Saturday's home events for the Red Out, which benefits the Spectrum Health Cardiac Unit.
