Ferris State Women's Basketball Battles NCAA Division I Eastern Michigan In Exhibition Setback

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad squared off against NCAA Division I Eastern Michigan in exhibition play on Wednesday (Nov. 16) and battled the Eagles hard in a 68-50 setback at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Mich.

The Bulldogs trailed only 23-18 after one period and were down by only seven points at halftime before the hosts outscored FSU 32-21 over the final 20 minutes of action in the afternoon matchup.

Ferris State received a team-high nine points from junior guard Leah Humes and freshman forward Lilly George while junior forward Rachel McInerney contributed seven points and seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs were held to 30% shooting for the evening and went only three-of-18 (16.7%) from three-point range along with seven-of-11 (63.6%) at the line.

Meanwhile, Eastern Michigan connected on 34.6% of its field goals and hit three-of-18 (16.7%) as well from long range while sinking 11-of-14 (78.6%) free throws.

EMU's Sasha Dailey notched a game-high 28 points and added nine rebounds with five steals. The Eagles also received 12 points from Ashley Nickens and 10 by Micah Robinson. Becca Turney pulled down a team-high 12 boards.

The Bulldogs were outrebounded 56-43 for the day and the Eagles hauled in 18 offensive caroms. Eastern Michigan also outscored the Bulldogs 24-9 in points off turnovers as FSU finished with 19 miscues to 14 for the Eagles.

Overall, Eastern Michigan held a 44-28 edge in points inside the paint and they also totaled 14 points on the break to 10 for the Bulldogs. 

Ferris State compiled eight assists, eight steals and eight blocked shots in the game, including three blocks from freshman Brayene Benner and two by McInerney. EMU posted 13 assists, 11 steals and had seven blocks.

The Bulldogs will take part in the Pitt State Classic hosted by Pittsburg State this weekend in Pittsburg, Kan. FSU takes on the host school Friday (Nov. 18) at 8:30 p.m. (ET) before facing Central Missouri on Saturday (Nov. 19) beginning at 2 p.m. (ET).
