Ferris State Battles Lakers To Wire In Close Women's Basketball Setback

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad battled Lake Superior State to the wire on Thursday (Feb. 9) night before falling 58-54 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs trailed by two points at halftime in a low scoring first half of play before LSSU took a six-point lead into the final period. FSU managed to outscore the Lakers 24-22 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as the Lakers prevailed.

Ferris State got a team-high 16 points from junior guard Leah Humes along with 15 points and 11 rebounds from junior center Rachel McInerney in a double-double effort. 

The Bulldogs, though, were limited to only 35% shooting for the game and FSU went two-of-nine (22.2%) from three-point range in the contest.

Meanwhile, the Lakers converted at 41.5% from the floor and hit three-of-15 (20%) three's in earning the win. They received a game-high 18 points from Tamara Novic along with 10 by Valerie Meissner.

FSU had only 12 turnovers compared to Lake Superior State's 15 and the Bulldogs outscored the Lakers 10-7 in points off turnovers, but LSSU finished with a 28-26 edge inside the paint and received 20 points off the bench to only 10 by the Bulldogs.

Ferris State will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 11) as FSU ventures to Midland to face the Northwood Timberwolves in their final road game of the season starting at 6 p.m. (ET).

Following Saturday's tilt, the Bulldogs will play their final three regular-season games back at home inside Jim Wink Arena.
