Big Second Half Leads Ferris State Women's Basketball To Key League Road Triumph

Tiffin, Ohio - A big second half lifted the Ferris State University women's basketball squad to its second consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory as the Bulldogs raced past the Tiffin Dragons 87-68 in league action on Thursday (Feb. 8) night at the Gilmor Center in Tiffin.

The Bulldogs broke a 37-37 deadlock at halftime by outscoring TU 21-14 in the third and 29-17 in the fourth quarter to notch their fourth win in the last six outings.

The victory was a key road win for the Bulldogs, who opened a four-game conference road swing and were tied for sixth overall in the league heading into the contest with six games left in the regular season. The top eight teams at the end of the year earn conference tournament bids.

FSU had five players reach double-figures in the high scoring win with junior guard Alexis Bush scoring a team-high 15 points. The Bulldogs also got 13 points from senior guard Leah Humes along with 11 each by sophomore forward Lilly George, sophomore guard Riley Blair and freshman guard Shaniya Huggins.

The Bulldogs shot 46% for the night and shot 50% or better in each of the final two quarters of action. FSU also hit five-of-16 (31.3%) three's and made 18-of-22 (81.8%) free throws while improving to 13-10 overall and 7-8 in the GLIAC.

The Dragons converted 40% of their field goal tries and went eight-of-24 (33.3%) from long range along with 10-of-12 (83.3%) at the line.

Tiffin was paced by Ali Schirmer's team-high 12 points with Kiley May scoring 11 points and Aida Santana Martin adding 10 points.

The Bulldogs held a decisive 47-33 rebounding edge and posted a 16-7 margin in second chance production thanks to 14 offensive caroms. Senior center Rachel McInerney led FSU on the glass with 13 rebounds while George added nine overall.

Ferris State also forced 18 turnovers and owned a 23-12 advantage in scoring off turnovers in addition to outscoring TU 40-22 inside the paint.

TU fell to 7-16 overall and 3-12 in league competition with the loss.

The Bulldogs will travel to Ashland (Ohio) on Saturday (Feb. 10) to face the nationally top-ranked and defending national champion Eagles inside AU's Kates Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. (ET).
