Ferris State Registers GLIAC Home Win Over Davenport At Wink Arena

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad bounced back in a big way as FSU held off the Davenport Panthers down the stretch for an 83-77 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home win on Saturday (Jan. 5) at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs built a 22-16 first-quarter edge and held off the Panthers in the second half to earn the win and move to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the GLIAC.

A total of five Bulldog players reached double-digits in the high scoring win with senior guard Alexis Bush netting a team-high 18 points to go with seven rebounds.

FSU also got 16 points off the bench from freshman forward Jalynn Brumfield in addition to 14 points by sophomore guard Shaniya Huggins. Both junior center Brayene Benner and wing Kelsey Wyman totaled 10 points each.

Ferris State shot 51% from the floor and made six-of-14 (42.9%) three's along with 15-of-22 (68.2%) tries from the charity stripe.

FSU built a lead as much as 14 points before Davenport rallied in the final period by outscoring FSU 26-23. However, the Bulldogs held off the Panthers in the closing minutes to secure the home court victory.

Davenport converted 39.7% of its field goals and went four-of-18 (22.2%) from long range in addition to 23-of-28 (82.1%) at the line.

The Panthers were paced by Amanda Merz's game-high 22 points and eight assists. Jenna Falkenberg added 17 points and 17 rebounds in a double-double effort on the inside.

Overall, FSU tallied 24 assists, including nine from Huggins, and tallied 12 steals with three blocked shots. DU finished with 18 assists, seven steals and five blocks overall.

Ferris State was outrebounded 40-37 for the afternoon, but held a 19-6 edge in fast break production and received 36 points off the bench in comparison to only 18 for Davenport.

The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Michigan's Upper Peninsula for two league road games. FSU first visits Michigan Tech on Thursday (Jan. 10) for a 5:30 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Houghton before facing Northern Michigan on Saturday (Jan. 12) at 1 p.m. (ET) in Marquette.
