Ferris State Notches Third-Straight Home Win As Bulldogs Beat Lakers In GLIAC Play

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad wrapped up a three-game Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) homestand with its third-straight win as the Bulldogs rolled past Lake Superior State 62-46 on Saturday (Jan. 26) in league play at Jim Wink Arena.

Before a big crowd at Wink Arena, the Bulldogs started fast and led 18-12 after the opening quarter. FSU held a 27-22 edge at halftime before LSSU pulled back within four at the end of three periods.

However, in the fourth quarter of play, the Bulldogs outscored the Lakers 16-4 to notch the victory as they improved to 10-7 overall and 7-4 in the GLIAC.

Ferris State got a game-high 20 points and six rebounds from Riley Blair to go with 14 points, seven assists and five boards from senior guard Alexis Bush. Sophomore guard Shaniya Huggins returned to the lineup and tallied nine points, six assists, six rebounds and three steals in the win.

FSU converted at a 46.7% clip from the floor and went four-of-six (66.7%) at the free throw line along with two-of-11 (18.2%) from three-point range.

Meanwhile, Lake Superior State shot only 30.2% from the floor and hit seven-of-25 (28%) three's in addition to seven-of-eight (87.5%) free throws.

The Bulldogs held a decided advantage inside the paint where they outscored the Lakers 34-18 for the game along with a significant margin up the floor with a 18-2 edge in fast break scoring. FSU also forced 18 turnovers and had only eight of its own on the afternoon.

The Lakers were led by both Sadie DeWildt and Lexie Khon, who both totaled nine points apiece.

Overall, Ferris State outrebounded LSSU 38-34 and posted a 9-3 margin in second chance scoring with nine offensive boards. The Bulldogs also totaled eight steals and seven blocked shots while dishing out 22 assists in comparison to LSSU's three steals, two blocks and 11 assists.

The Bulldogs will hit the road to face Saginaw Valley State on Thursday (Jan. 31) evening with tipoff set for 8 p.m. (ET) in University Center, Mich. FSU then visits Northwood on Saturday (Feb. 2) for a 6 p.m. (ET) league game in Midland before returning back to Big Rapids for a four-game homestand Feb. 7-16.
