Ferris State Rolls Over LSSU To Notch Third Victory In Last Four Contests

Big Rapids, Mich. - A big second half lifted the Ferris State University women's basketball squad to its second-straight road victory and third win in the last four games as the Bulldogs topped Lake Superior State 83-65 on Tuesday (Jan. 26) night at Bud Cooper Gymnasium in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Bulldogs fell behind 24-16 at the end of the first quarter before cutting the margin to two points at halftime. In the second half, however, FSU controlled play, outscoring the Lakers 21-13 in the third period and 27-15 over the final 10 minutes of action to account for the final margin.

Freshman guard Kadyn Blanchard posted another big game for the Bulldogs with a game-high 32 points on 12-of-22 shooting, including a six-of-10 showing from three-point range. She added 10 rebounds in a double-double performance for the Bulldogs.

Along with Blanchard, FSU junior Zoe Anderson recorded her second consecutive double-figure scoring contest with 12 points while forward Ellie Dykstra had 11 points and sophomore guard Mallory McCartney finished with 10 points in addition to a team-high seven assists.

Ferris State shot 47.6% from the floor overall and made 11-of-27 (40.7%) three's along with 12-of-17 (70.6%) free throws.

For Lake Superior State, Makenzie Bray netted a team-high 16 points with Jaden Wilder adding 13 points and Mattison Rayman contributing 11 points in the setback. The Lakers finished shooting 43.1% from the floor, but were only two-of-15 (13.3%) beyond the three-point stripe. They did make 13-of-15 (86.7%) free throws.

Ferris State held a slim rebounding edge at 31-29 and the Bulldogs also came down with nine offensive rebounds. FSU had only 11 turnovers compared to 17 for the Lakers.

FSU also distributed the ball well with 20 assists in the game on 30 baskets. In addition to McCartney's seven assists, Anderson had five and Dykstra finished with four for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State returns home to host Michigan Tech in GLIAC play this weekend at FSU's Jim Wink Arena on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 29-30).
