Big Rapids, Mich. - Host Parkside got off to a blistering start and raced to a 82-59 win over the Ferris State University women's basketball squad on Tuesday (March 2) in the first round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament at DeSimone Gymnasium in Somers, Wis.

The Rangers shot 61% from the floor in the opening 10 minutes while building a 28-11 edge and finished shooting 49% for the game, including a 13-of-33 (39.4%) showing from the three-point line. They hit 10 three's in the opening half against the Bulldogs.

After splitting a pair of high-scoring regular-season matchups between the two teams at FSU's Jim Wink Arena, the Bulldogs could not keep pace on Tuesday as Ferris State was held to 37.9% shooting for the afternoon and went only six-of-25 (24%) from long range.

Junior Ellie Dykstra led the Bulldogs with 16 points in the game, including 14 in the first half. She was joined in double-figures by freshman Ariel Jenkins with 10 points on the inside.

The Rangers had five players reach double-figure scoring with Courtney Schoenbeck pacing UWP with a game-high 20 points. Maddy Harrison had 13 points with Alexis Vaughn scoring 11 points and both Hannah Plockelman and Alyssa Nelson chipping in 10 points each.

Overall, Parkside held a slim 38-32 rebounding edge and FSU also had 21 turnovers to only 20 for the Rangers, who advanced to the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday in Westville, Ind.

Ferris State's 2020-21 season came to a close with the setback, but the Bulldogs are expected to return their full roster for next season, including three players with starting experience in their FSU careers who missed the entire campaign.
