Host Saginaw Valley State Uses Big Fourth Quarter To Hold Off Bulldogs In GLIAC Women's Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team battled Saginaw Valley State to the finish in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road action on Thursday (Jan. 27), but the Cardinals used a big fourth quarter to earn a 70-62 triumph over the Bulldogs at O'Neill Arena.

Ferris State led by five points in the early minutes and the game went back and forth with 11 lead changes before the Cardinals managed to break a deadlock heading into the final period by outscoring FSU 20-12 over the final 10 minutes of action.

Saginaw Valley State limited FSU to only 37.7% shooting for the night, including a three-of-14 (21.4%) effort in the final quarter while moving to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the GLIAC.

The Bulldogs fell to 13-6 overall and 7-4 in conference play with the setback in their second of three consecutive league road contests this week.

Ferris State was led by senior guard Adrienne Anderson with a game-high 19 points. Junior guard Mallory McCartney added 17 points and went five-of-nine from long range in the contest while also chipping in a team-high nine rebounds.

However, Saginaw Valley State's Maddie Barrie made six-of-12 (50%) three's and finished with 18 points for SVSU. Maddie Maloney added 14 points with Tori DePerry scoring 12 points.

The Cardinals finished shooting 45.5% for the night and made 11-of-24 (45.8%) three's along with a nine-of-11 (81.8%) showing at the free throw stripe.

Both teams finished with nine turnovers and each team had 34 rebounds in the game although SVSU managed a 12-5 advantage in second chance production on the strength of eight offensive boards.

The Bulldogs converted nine-of-20 (45%) three's for the game and made 13-of-17 (76.5%) free throws.

Ferris State wraps up its three-game road stretch on Saturday (Jan. 29) as FSU visits Wayne State for a 1 p.m. (ET) GLIAC contest in Detroit at the new Wayne State Fieldhouse in the Motor City.
