Women's Golf Hands Out 2008-09 Awards

The 2008-09 season award winners for the Ferris State University women's golf team have been selected with a pair of seniors, Alison Meyer (Duluth, Minn./Central) and Raquel Hansen (West Olive/Grand Haven) each receiving a team award. Second-year head coach Mike Mignano made the announcement.

Meyer was chosen as Ferris State's 2008-09 Most Valuable Player and Hansen became a repeat winner of the Bulldog Award, which recognizes a current team member who displays the most dedication and hard work. The pair were both instrumental in leading the nationally 10th-ranked Bulldogs to a sixth-place tie at the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships (May 13-16) in Findlay, Ohio.

A three-time (2006-07, 2007-08, and 2008-09) All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First-Team pick, Meyer registered a squad and career single-season best 77.24 stroke average (2,240 total strokes) in 29 rounds this season. Her stroke average this campaign was the third best all-time in the program's history. She produced a team-most 12 top-20 place finishes this season with five of those being among the top five individual performers in tournament action.

Meyer, who was tabbed the GLIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week this season (Sept. 17), turned in a personal season-best second-place effort at the Northwood Invitational (April 10-11) with a two-round 151 score. She went on to post a ninth-place 237-stroke total at the 2009 NCAA-II East Regional Tournament (May 3-5) before concluding her four-year (2005-09) career with a squad-leading seventh-place tying 308 score at the four-round 2009 NCAA-II Championships.

A 2007-08 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-America Honorable Mention honoree, Meyer presently ranks second on FSU's all-time stroke leaders list with a 78.51 career average (8,244 total strokes) in 105 rounds. She recorded 35 career top-20 place finishes and had 10 within the top five. Meyer was the recipient of the 2006-07 team's Bulldog Award.

Hansen finished second on the team with an 11th all-time season best 78.66 stroke average (2,281 total strokes) in 29 rounds this season which also represented a personal career season best. The 2008-09 All-GLIAC First-Team performer chalked up nine top-20 place efforts, which featured seven among the top 10 individuals. Hansen, a two-time (2007-08 and 2008-09) ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV College Division Women's At-Large Team selection, notched a season-best second-place showing in this season's opening Ferris State Bulldog Invitational (Aug. 30-31) as a result of carding a two-round 147 score. She led Ferris State to second place at the 2009 NCAA-II East Regional Tourney by shooting a sixth-place tying 235 three-round stroke total. Hansen tied for 32nd-place honors at the 2009 NCAA-II Championships on the basis of registering a 321 score in the 72-hole event.

Hansen, a three-time (2005-06, 2006-07, and 2007-08) second-team All-GLIAC honoree, was the 2007-08 team's Bulldog Award recipient. She garnered NGCA Scholar-Athlete All-America and GLIAC All-Academic kudos in each of the past two seasons (2006-07 and 2007-08).

For her four-year (2005-09) career, Hansen is listed fifth on the program's all-time stroke average leaders list to date with a 79.89 career average (8,549 total strokes) in 107 rounds. She accumulated 27 top-20 place finishes in her career and produced 19 top-10 performances.
