Ferris Finishes 10th at GVSU Laker Classic
The nationally ninth-ranked Ferris State women's golf team placed 10th with a two-round 668 team score at the 2009 Grand Valley State Laker Classic (Sept. 7-8) in Allendale, Mich.
Ferris State carded rounds of 336 and 332 on the par 72, 5,954-yard The Meadows Golf Course on the GVSU campus to finish 92 strokes over par. The Bulldogs concluded the two-day action just two strokes behind Dayton and Southern Indiana, who both produced 666-stroke totals (+90). Host Grand Valley State won its second consecutive tournament this fall as the Lakers generated a 614 score (+38) to place first among the 16 participating teams.
Sophomore Bryce Hetchler (Clinton Township/Fraser) was Ferris State's top individual golfer for the second straight tournament as she tallied a pair of 82 rounds to post a 24th-place tying 164 score (82-82=164, +20).
Freshman Ashley Swanson (Flushing/Flint Powers Catholic Central) turned in a 165 (87-78=165, +21), which proved deserving of a 30th-place tie. Sophomore Brooke Rodes (Traverse City/West) shot a 167 (81-86=167, +23) and was one of seven individuals to gain a share of 36th-place honors.
Tying for 52nd-place was sophomore Blaize Baumgartner (Perry), who fired a 172 score (86-86=172, +28). Fellow sophomore Breezy Bernth (Greenville) had a 183 (95-881=183, +39) to tie for 73rd place.
Ferris State returns to the links this weekend (Sept. 12-13) to compete in the Michigan State Mary Fossum Invitational at the Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.
