Ferris State Earns NCAA Women's Golf Regional Bid

For the ninth consecutive time, Ferris State University will be represented at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Super Regionals as the Bulldogs earned a postseason berth to the 2010 Super Regional One (East Region) as announced Monday (April 26) by the NCAA-II Women's Golf Committee.
FSU will make its ninth straight NCAA-II Regional Tournament appearance after making its debut back in the 2001-02 season with a third-place showing. To date, the Bulldogs have won a regional tourney twice (2003-04 and 2006-07) while attaining runner-up honors on four occasions (2004-05, 2005-06, 2007-08, and 2008-09).
Ferris State is among nine teams who will playing in the 2010 East Super Regional from May 2-4 at the Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo. Drury University will be hosting the Super Regional One Tournament.
The Bulldogs, who are coached by third-year head coach Mike Mignano, are the seeded ninth among the East Region teams. Grand Valley State is the top seed while Indianapolis and California (Pa.) are the second and third seeds, respectively. Ashland is fourth and host Drury is seeded fifth. The remainder of the East Region field is comprised of sixth-seed Southern Indiana, seventh-seed Northern Kentucky, and eighth-seed Missouri-St. Louis. The four individuals who will be taking part are Sarah DuPlessis of Bellarmine, Findlay's Andrea Vogt, Anne-Claire Tans of Ohio Valley, and Concord's Vivian Garciaferro.
A season ago (May 3-5), Ferris State earned second-place honors at the 2009 NCAA-II East Regional as a result of generating a three-round 960-stroke total at the Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, Pa. The Bulldogs, who qualified for the national tournament with their runnr-up performance, recorded rounds of 320, 321, and 319 to finish 96 strokes over par and second to regional champion Grand Valley State (918, +54).
Each super regional will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants will compete throughout the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not affiliated with a team from each super regional, will advance to the championships.
The 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships are slated for May 12-15 at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. The 2010 championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. All participants will compete throughout the entire 72 holes of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores for each team will count in each day’s total score. A total of 72 individuals qualify for the national tournament.
Ferris State, which placed third with a 628 team score at this past Saturday's (April 24) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Big Rapids, Mich., was listed among other teams receiving votes in the most recent (April 21) Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Coaches' Poll of the 2010 spring season.
