Ferris State Women's Golf Ends Fall Ranked 23rd Nationally

The Ferris State University women's golf team will enter the new year nationally ranked as the Bulldogs finished 23rd in the final Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Golf Division II Coaches' Poll (Nov. 30) for the 2009 fall season as released by the NGCA.

Ferris State earned 46 points in the top-25 poll to finish three points ahead of 24th-place Central Oklahoma.  Grand Canyon (Ariz.) was eight points ahead of the Bulldogs with a 22nd-place 54-points total.

For the first time this season, a different team occupies the top position as Grand Valley State moved up from third into first with 230 points and two first-place votes.  Nova Southeastern (Fla.), which held the number-one spot, dropped into second place with 229 points and four first-place votes.  Rollins (Fla.) received three first-place votes to go with 212 points for fourth place while Ashland garnered the other first-place vote and is listed eighth with a 161-points total.  Ferris State along with Grand Valley State and Ashland are all members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Previously, Ferris State was ranked 21st nationally with 70 points in the second fall season poll.    

The 2009 fall season final poll will appear in the Dec. 2 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online at www.golfworld.com.  The Golf World/NGCA Golf Division II Coaches' Poll combines the resources of Golf World magazine and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).   

Ferris State, which is presently idle after wrapping up its 2009 fall campaign, will resume action on the links at the Northern Kentucky Invitational (March 27-28).

The Bulldog women's golf team finished sixth place or higher in three tournaments this fall, which included a team-best third-place performance at the Northern Arizona Mountain Shootout in Flagstaff, Ariz.  Ferris State was ranked 18th in the first national poll of the 2009 fall season.  

Ferris State, under the guidance of third-year head coach Mike Mignano, entered this 2009-10 season ranked ninth in Golf World/NGCA Golf Division II Preseason Coaches' Poll (Sept. 3).
