The Ferris State University women's golf team is listed ninth in the 2009-10 Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Preseason Coaches' Poll as released this Thursday (Sept. 3).

Ferris State attained 207 points in the preseason balloting to earn ninth-place honors.  Nova Southeastern (Fla.), the defending 2009 national champions, were tabbed as the preseason favorites by virtue of receiving 10 first-place votes and 297 points.  The remaining two first-place votes were split between Rollins (Fla.) and Grand Valley State.  Rollins placed second in the Top-25 poll with 281 points while Grand Valley State picked up a third-place 269 points.

The preseason poll will appear in the Sept. 7 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online at www.golfworld.com.  The Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches' Poll combines the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

A season ago, Ferris State entered the 2008-09 campaign with a fifth-place national ranking as the Bulldogs accumulated 220 points.  FSU would continue to receive a top-25 ranking in all five polls throughout the season and concluded the 2009 spring season ranked 10th in the final poll with a 160 points total.  The Bulldogs would go on to make their ninth-ever national tourney appearance in the program's history as FSU carded a four-round 1,275 team score to tie for sixth place at the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships (5/13-16) in Findlay, Ohio.

Ferris State, which is coached by third-year head coach Mike Mignano, will host the Ferris State Bulldog Invitational this Saturday (Sept. 5) in its 2009-10 season-opening tournament.  The 36-hole event will be held at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.
