Women's Golf Closes Out Fall Season With A Third-Place Performance

The 2010-11 Ferris State University women's golf team turned in a third-place team performance in their final fall season appearance this weekend (Oct. 9-10) at Findlay's William Bing Beall Classic in Arlington, Ohio.

The Bulldogs concluded the two-day tournament by producing a two-round 631 team score with rounds of 318 and 313, respectively, on the par 72, 5,966-yard Sycamore Springs Golf Course.  Ashland claimed first place by registering a 600-stroke total while Grand Valley State placed second with a 628 score among the 13 teams participating.

Leading Ferris State was junior Erin Fuchik (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelly), who turned in a 154 score (76-78=154, +10) to gain a share of fifth-place honors.  Sophomore Ashley Swanson (Flushing/Flint Powers Catholic Central) along with junior Cooper Shawen (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and freshman Emily Rohdy (Farwell) all placed in a five-way tie for 11th place with 158-stroke totals.  Swanson (82-76=158, +14) finished just one stroke shy of matching her season-best effort this fall while Shawen (77-81=158, +14) and Rohdy (78-80=158, +14) both competed in a non-scoring capacity.

Freshman Jacqueline DeBoer (Grand Rapids/South Christian) placed tied for 18th by posting a 160 score (80-80=160, +16) in her fourth appearance of the fall while junior Bryce Hetchler's (Clinton Township/Fraser) 162 (80-82=162, +18) earned her a share of 24th place.

Junior Blaize Baumgartner (Perry) turned in a 29th-place tying performance as a result of carding a 164 score (85-79=164, +20) to round out the Bulldogs' scoring.

Fellow juniors Breezy Bernth (Greenville) and Brooke Rodes (Traverse City/West) also finished among the top 45 placings as non scorers.  Bernth (86-82=168, +24) tied for 40th place and Rodes earned a tie for 45th-place honors.

Head coach Mike Mignano's team is now idle before returning to the links in spring 2011 (March 7-8) at the Rollins Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in Longwood, Fla.
